In April 2022, the world was shocked and outraged by the terrible events going on in the war in Ukraine.
I composed a reflective
"A Prayer for Peace" in support of the Ukrainians.
This time, in this piece, I wanted to celebrate times as they used to be for the poor people of
Ukraine and Eastern Europe which the war has affected so badly.
So this is a lively original folk tune in which I have tried to capture the joy and carefree nature of traditional folk music from Ukraine and other Eastern European nations - a reflection of how things used to be before the terrible events unfolded before the world's eyes.
I have written three versions:
Version 1: Single flute and piano (difficulty level - hardest (approx. Grades 6-7)
Version 2: Two flutes and piano (or single flute with optional 2nd flute part (difficulty level - medium (approx. Grades 5-6)
Version 3: Two flutes and piano (or single flute with optional 2nd flute part (difficulty level - easiest (approx. Grades 4-5).
All three versions have the same piano accompaniment.
The YouTube video footage is of Eastern European dancers dancing to original folk music,
to which I have overdubbed my piece.
Hopefully one day these folk dancers will be able to get back to, and feel like, doing what they love - celebrating traditional culture in a joyous, carefree and innocent way.
